Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2022/2023

almost 6 months later, but I'll wish you a very belated Merry Christmas 2022!

Christmas is always a time filled with joy and happy memories and traditions and fun.  It is also a season tainted with sadness for us because many of the memories have become bittersweet and each present Christmas season is filled with lonely moments amidst all the beautiful ones.  A season that used to be filled with really only joy (though tiredness-yes!) is now one filled with joy and a lot of pain as well.

We spent Advent 2022 doing our best to find all our Christmas decorations after the move in November and put them up around our new-to-us home.  I borrowed a ladder from a friend to put up Christmas lights.  I probably also should have asked for help as I may have come a bit too close to falling off a ladder and/or a ladder falling into a window a couple times.  Thankfully all is well that ends well and my home and myself are still safe.

The kids are always great about helping me put out our Nativity scene outside. Decorating the tree is also a favorite pasttime. This year, we enjoyed lots of hot chocolate, shopped together for gifts, sang loads of Christmas carols, and watched tons of fun Christmas movies together among other things.

I also made our traditional Christmas morning cinnamon rolls.  This tradition is carried over from my family or origin.  My grandmother always made homemade cinnamon rolls and sent them to my parents and my mom would put them in the over to warm them up Christmas morning for us to enjoy for breakfast. My grandma isn't up to making the rolls, but I do it and we all still enjoy the tradition and the wonderful smells wafting through the house all morning.

What a great bunch of kiddos I have.  I love you all to pieces.  I am SO blessed to be your mama.

time to make silly faces

On New Year's Eve, my family plays GAMES. We also usually watch Rudolph's Shiny New Year.

Playing our new game we got for Christmas- Shut the Box. We were introduced to this by our friends that we stayed with before our move into the new house and it is so fun and easy to play.

She shut the box!
Winner!

Another Cruess family tradition (for New Year's Eve) is root beer floats!  We put them in fancy glasses and toasted 2023

This was something I saw online and implemented a few years ago.  On one piece of butcher paper we write our favorite memories from the previous year and another we write our goals for the upcoming year.

Root beer floats and wonderful 2022 memories! Cheers!

sweet boy passed out around 10pm.  He couldn't make it to midnight.

The rest of us stayed up watching It's a Wonderful Life.
I love this movie.

Kevin and Sara's Surprise Visit- January 2022

If you read my last post about Christmas 2021, you know the ache and pain.

Now for some sweet JOY brought by my brother and his family who were such a HUGE example of the heart of Christ.

They traveled 18 hours + to come and hang out with the kids and I after Christmas and surround us with love and so much FUN!

They drove through the night to arrive at our house two days after Christmas to surprise my kiddos.

Kevin put together the foosball table we got for Christmas.
God bless big brothers.

Sara helped too.
