Banana Berry Smoothie

I am doing a detox to get all the harmful toxins out of my body.  Something like this from Farmacology Organics' blog .  I am focusing on Steps 1-3 (the food aspect) though I wouldn't mind trying some of the other steps if I'm able.  Step 9, of course, would utilize prayer instead of all that "guided meditation" crapola.
I plan to read my Bible for 15 minutes to start and end my day with my Rosary thrown somewhere between the two, maybe during a run.  :)

Anyway here is a simple smoothie that I came up with this morning to help me get lots of fruit and some veggies as well!

Banana Berry Smoothie

Makes 1 generous serving

1 large banana
3-5  ice cubes
1/2 cup strawberries
1/2 cup blueberries
1/4 cup grated carrot
1-3 grated radishes
1/2 tsp flaxseed
1 tsp coconut oil (heated briefly over low heat to liquefy)

Blend it all up and enjoy!

I am going to eliminate the last two ingredients, add a bit of water and make this into a Popsicle recipe for the girls to enjoy too!

UPDATE: We made the Popsicles!

Under the Sea Popsicles

These didn't turn out quite like I'd hoped (probably the fish were a little heavy), but the kids enjoyed them all the same, so I guess how it looked doesn't really matter in the end.

I left the Juju fish and blue food coloring out of the picture...oops
First you need to make your pink lemonade (or really whatever drink you want to make that is light or clear colored and can easily be turned blue)

We added a little sprite for an extra kick.  Then I dropped in some blue food coloring.  Kayla was thrilled as she stirred and the pink lemonade turned to blue lemonade before her eyes.

Then you fill the popsicle molds about halfway and stick them in the freezer.  I had to test and check every 10-15 minutes to see when it was starting to freeze and slush.  I put ours in for about an hour.  Turns out I was a little premature still.
Because the fish sunk to the bottom instead of floating in the middle.  The problem is that Juju fish are rather large.  If they were the size of gummy bears, ours probably would have worked.  You could also try leaving them to freeze just a bit longer.  In any case, the girls loved their Under the Sea Popsicles no matter where the fish were located in them.
The finished products!  Cool, tasty, FuN!

Strawberry Lemonade Popsicles

It's springtime and it's starting to get warm, even HOT at times.
The sunshine and desire to be outside constantly means it's Popsicle season!

I bought these Popsicle molds at Target for like $2.99, I think.  They have little straws for sipping the parts of the Popsicle that start to melt while you are eating it.  Sweet little addition, no?   I purchased a container of  Pink Lemonade mix and some fresh strawberries and made some deliciously cool treats to enjoy in the hot weather we've been basking in.   Simply add water to the mix per the directions on the label and add pureed strawberry.  I let the strawberry lemonade sit for a few hours in the fridge to allow the strawberry flavor to mingle with the pink lemonade before adding it to the molds.

And ta-da!!! We had some friends over and all the kids loved them.  An added bonus is that these Popsicles are thicker and sturdier than the ones you buy at the store generally so Elise  (2 years old) was holding hers upside down and sideways, and no pieces broke off, and there were a few (if any) small drips that found their way to our patio concrete.  Of course, if it's 100 degrees out, no Popsicle of any kind is going to last more than 2 minutes out in the sun...

Keep posted for more Popsicle flavors and ideas coming soon!!  This is our new addiction around here (and probably will be until October)
