August 2023 overview

After arriving home from our adventure East, we found some lovely things growing and thriving in our yard.  The front was filled with flowers and the back was covered in both flowers AND tomatoes!

I enjoyed a lovely coffee date with a dear friend while we discussed coaching strategies for the upcoming season.

Even the raspberries began to ripen

During this time I also watched the neighbors' quails and they let me pick anything ripe from their garden so it wouldn't go to waste.  Wonderful month of healthy living.

Kolbe got a new army suit as an early birthday gift.  His birthday is always right before or right after school starts so I often give him his gifts early so he has several full weeks of SUMMER to enjoy them before school starts and we all have a little less time for play.

Kayla and I have been watching Once Upon a Time and enjoying hot chocolate with cinnamon.  Mmmm

In an effort to make our morning routine a little less crazy, I bought (and put together) a shelving unit for the kids' school shoes.  They can either use a cubby or the top bench to put a pile of the next day's uniform out so it's ready to go and there's no fussing or looking for a missing uniform piece at 6am.

I also bought that hanging rack for their extra uniforms so that it's easier to keep them all unwrinkled and ready to be laid out.

Time for a new season of volleyball.
I can hardly believe this is my third year coaching

Celebrating a dear friend and coworker's birthday

Besides our travel, camping trip, and Kolbe's birthday (which will have it's own post), August was fairly low key for us, which we all needed since June and July had been crazy (and way FUN of course). We all needed the quieter pace of August though to gear up for a new school year.

Lake Dillon Camping Trip 2023

In August we joined up with many families from our school at Prospector Campground on Lake Dillon to camp.  It's always such a great time

We documented how poor I am at starting a fire.

We did eventually get it going and had hot dogs

The views were excellent

I'm not sure why the formatting wouldn't put these earlier, but whatever.  I only built one fire over the course of the weekend not two.  haha

We took a lovely lake-side hike with friends

the boys gathered huge sticks

Mr. McNeilly, Gioia, and the boys helping break them by sitting on them and jumping on them.  hah
