Updates on the girls

Kayla

At a little over 3 1/2 years of age, this girl is quickly becoming a little pre-reader. Kayla picked up her alphabet quickly using bath tub foam toy letters and since then we've done many projects and puzzles incorporating the alphabet. I don't plan to send the girls to pre-school so I view anytime between birth and age 5 as a time to teach and model a love for learning to prepare the girls for school someday. Recently Kayla has kicked it up a notch by musing about what letter various words start with. We'll be driving somewhere and Kayla will pipe up from the backseat..."T..t.tt truck. that starts with T, Mommy". So we have begun to do a bunch of activities utilizing letter sounds. We received some fun activity books from Chris' aunt (THANK YOU!) that have been begun enthusiastically already! On the one hand, it's strange to me that my little girl is growing up so quickly, but my childhood education background is thrilling watching and being a part of each learning experience!

Kayla has a vivid imagination as well. She now plays out different scenarios with stuffed animals, tries to climb trees, and attempts to be a little mommy to Ava. She is a really good helper. She and I went to adoration together last week and she sat quietly reading her books about Mary and Jesus and the Saints. She commented about Mary's "booty-ful pink flower cwown" as well and how she would like one too someday.

Elise

This little girl is nearly 2 already!! She gets more and more funny with each passing day. She also gets more vocal. Her excited flapping is still present, and is often combined with a goofy little laugh. She can repeat anything, and is also able to use many words, short phrases, and even some full sentences to express herself now. She isn't particularly interested in potty training yet, but does randomly ask to use the toilet (and uses it!!) from time to time. Elise has also begun to enjoy coloring with crayons. There was a time when we thought she would never get over her apparent need to eat them, but she only does that on occasion now. She is a huge helper now, too. She gets wipes, diapers, and clothing items for Ava. Her hugs are heartfelt and her kisses are super sweet. This little girl loves life and is a joy to us all.

Ava

At nearly 5 months, we discovered (or rather Kayla discovered) that Ava has her first tooth! Kayla let Ava suck on her finger at Grandma's house last night and looked up at us and said, "Ava has a tooth." Chris and I rolled our eyes at each other, but I put my finger in Ava's mouth and checked her gums... Yep, there was a tooth popping up. She is also rolling, twisting, and scootching every which way (as I noted in yesterday's post). She is so full of smiles and loves to watch her big sisters run around inside and outside.
