NaBloPoMo- That's National Blog Posting Month

I participated last year in National Blog Posting Month on our personal family blog.  The idea is to post something everyday of the month.    I have also seen a 30 day challenge of being thankful for something each day (I can hardly believe it's November and Thanksgiving is fast-approaching), so I plan to kind-of combine the two challenges over the course of the month.

Let's start by being thankful.
DAY 1:  I am thankful for family history.  I know this sounds random, but it's All Souls Day, so we've been praying for those who have gone before us.  I always loved hearing stories about our ancestors.  My favorite story is one that my grandmother tells about her grandfather who claimed to have come over on the Mayflower.  It's not true, but it's stories like these that bring my great great grandfather to life for me since I didn't know him.  What a ham he must have been.  From my Italian side, we are told all sorts of stories and there are all sorts of family recipes that my great grandmother Rose (whom I am named after) made. She never wrote her recipes down, so various uncles and cousins who watched her cook have given us recipes that are as close as we'll ever get to Grandma Rose's dishes.  On the hubby's side of the family there was a pro baseball player and I'm told there was a relative who owned a brewery (I guess the hubby has beer-brewing in his blood).  The hubby's grandparents came from France, so we think it's fitting that our girls love to read Fancy Nancy books (she's always using fancy French words like Oui, oui, and Merci!).  Learning more about our family history makes me want to speak several languages...

In short, I'm thankful for family.  I'm thankful to be able to learn about those I never knew, and I'm thankful for being able to make our own family history together each and every day.

We've got plenty of personality in this home, so I'm quite sure we'll have a very interesting family history to share with our descendants.  ;)
