Kayla's ballet studio put on a really sweet Sugar Plum Tea for the little girls this past weekend. It was a fundraiser to help with the costs of the Nutcracker production, and it was the perfect thing for little ones who can't easily sit through the actual production.
During Kayla's Nutcracker practice on Saturday, I was asked to help set up for the tea, and I was only too happy to oblige. I got to help bring out supplies, draw ballet slippers and leotards on the little little ornament pegs, and help set up the little boutique table where one could buy special ornaments, nutcrackers, and books.
Aren't these just the sweetest? (these aren't put together, of course)
The tables all ready for the little tea participants!
We have read Tallulah's Tutu, but I didn't know this one {Tallulah's Nutcracker} existed, and it is PERFECT because Tallulah is a Little Mouse (Kayla's part). Naturally I had to purchase one. No brainer: We love books, we love ballet, it highlights the Little Mice, and we were able to have the "Sugar Plum Fairy" and "Clara" sign our book at the tea. Bam!
The tea began with a reading of a kid's version of The Nutcracker. Next, they had a very abbreviated version storytelling of the story interspersed with a few snippets of various dances from the production.

And then they invited the 2-4 year olds to come up and learn a dance with Clara....
and the 5-7 year olds to learn one with the Sugar Plum Fairy.
And then they "performed" it with the music....
Next the girls went into the "tea room" to have their tea and cookies and make their little, frilly ballerina ornaments.

That was their "excited" face....for the camera anyway. hahaha ^^^
And then Santa made an appearance and handed out candy canes.
