31 Days of Gratitude {Day 5} Small Things

I am playing catch-up because I like to drink in my days (or at least try to) and often I can't get my writing in in the evenings, so early mornings work better...

Yesterday, October 5, was the feast of St. Faustina.  I love her and I love the beautiful message of Divine Mercy for the world.  His love is always present, his mercy is always there.   We just need to open ourselves up to it.

These words, "love and always love" sound so easy, but love is a choice, an action, and it's not always easy.  It takes sacrifice and self-denial.  But it's always worth it.  I'm so grateful for the wisdom of the saints.

Yesterday I was able to go to the park with some gals (and all the kids of course) and what a blessing it is to have community, support, encouragement, and love along this journey of motherhood.  I was feeling a little down and just chatting and being able to be open and honest about life, marriage, and kids was so helpful in bringing my spirits out of the wallowing.

So blessed with a house filled to the brim with squeals of joy and sweet giggles from our girls.  They are so transparent and so easily filled with the joy of the Lord and the richness of life and....

Yesterday we took a walk as a family.  It was a short walk--just around the block.  And it was dark because it's fall and it's beginning to get darker earlier and earlier...

But it was time together and breathing the fresh air and just getting out and moving around was just what this mama needed at the end of a day in which I had to take the girls and sit in an autoshop to get new tires.

Those new tires were an experience we were hoping to put off awhile longer because, well--expensive.  But instead of freaking out, I did my best to thank God that we were blessed with a slow leak and that we check the tires regularly enough to see when the tread is getting low so that there was no emergency situation calling for new tires.  I'm thankful that the girls and I have a car that is safer than before and I'm thankful that we have the ability to sacrifice other things in our budget to make up for big expenses like this one.  I'm not saying I'm extremely excited to have to make those sacrifices, but I'm grateful for them all the same.  God is good, even when everything seems to happen all at the same time and the bills piling up seem a little overwhelming.

I'm also grateful for fall and all the fun baking it brings...
Not my best picture of apple cinnamon muffins, but they were delicious.
