Scripture gift(s) for your child(ren)

We moved recently and I attended the mom's group at a nearby parish last week.  I was impressed by the structure of the group.  There was a book discussion (they read a chapter a week from The Handbook for Catholic Moms currently) facilitated by one mom.  Another mom spoke about a special Saint that was featured for the week to familiarize everyone better with the lives of the Saints.  We wrote down each other's prayer intentions for the week so that we can pray for each other.  And lastly, we are working on several projects.  One is to choose a special Saint that we feel is a good fit for our husbands and pray for their intercession as we pray for our husbands each day.  The other is to choose a special scripture verse for each of our children.  We were to carefully research and pray about scriptures (a quick google search brings up tons of great verses to read through) and find one that we felt particularly applied to each of our kids.  And then we have to find a special way to present it to them.

I love Pinterest and all it's wonderful sharing capabilities, so I have been busily pinning various ideas for ways to present the Scriptures I found for each of the girls.  There is no way with my love of crafting that only one scripture or project will happen for each child.  I already have about 3 different crafts in the making, some that the girls are helping with and others that I am doing FOR them as a gift for years to come.

I would love for you to join me and prayerfully find a Scripture (or more) for each of your children. Here is one project I made for the girls and it's so easy and also practical.  Our girls have cereal or oatmeal for breakfast almost everyday, so I love that they will see their special Scripture verses for years to come each morning when they eat breakfast and start their day.

These bowls I found at Target for $1.99 a piece.  I used a fine point (though you can use any Sharpie) .  Once you have finished writing, simply put them in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  I put each of the girls names inside the bowl as well (not pictured). The original idea I saw on Pinterest was a plate.

I will post the other projects we are working on as we finish them, but here are a few other ideas I found on Pinterest (check out my Religious Crafts and Learning Pinterest board here) for some more inspiration.  Be sure to share your own ideas too!  Send pictures/descriptions to mamalaurarose@gmail.com and I will feature them in a blog post - Mom sharing is my favorite way to get ideas.

1.Paint on canvas (and use their little hands and/or feet)

2. Buy a wooden letter (first letter of their name) and write the Scripture on it.  You could even do the entire name and use a different Scripture for each letter and hang it in their room.

3. It appears to be a melted crayon project, but you could also just use paint and make it even more simple.

4.  Scripture stones- pretty self explanatory and a really neat project.

5.  Door hanger - I would probably do it using one of those wooden ones you can buy at Walmart or Michaels.  It would last longer and be more sturdy.

Join me and immerse your child(ren) in Scripture.
