Two days ago I needed a break from unpacking. Since our things arrived on Sunday, I've been unpacking and organizing with most of my day. When I'm not doing that, I'm caring for the kids, the new home, meals, and working online scoring shifts. You may recall (I sometimes forget) that I'm about 21 weeks pregnant too. So taking breaks is truly necessary for me (though totally contrary to my "work till I'm done" nature) right now. And two days ago, I didn't unpack a single box the whole day. I obviously still had to care for my kids, makes meals, and I had a scoring shift that evening, but the girls and I spent the morning riding bikes/scooters outside and painting. It was so refreshing.
Our little painting project was in honor of Sts. Gianna (This is a beautiful post about St. Gianna) and Louis de Montfort (This is an interesting read about how he inspired 5 popes) and was a "Mommy and Me" project (meaning I did some, they did some). I drew hearts with pencil on a paper and the kiddos painted all over them with a variety of colors. For this the three of them had to work on sharing paints and taking turns because we only had enough brushes for one for each color.
I shared a bit about each Saint with them. I pulled out a binder with these projects from several years ago in it which they loved and later tried to recreate on their own. And we let the paint dry. The feast day for St. Gianna and St. Louis de Montfort was yesterday (April 28). It came and went and we didn't get around to actually completing the project (despite good intentions). So, always a day late and a dollar short, we finished today (on the feast of St. Catherine of Siena). It was really all on me because the second step is super simple and is mostly Mommy work. I wrote quotes about love by St. Gianna and St. Louis de Montfort on construction paper and they glued their cut out hearts on it. The end.
They are perfect to decorate our place for Mother's Day with quotes about love, mothers, Mama Mary, and beautiful art creations by my girls. They would also be perfect to send to grandmas for a sweet Mother's Day gift from us all.
