The hospital stay after this baby was perhaps the most difficult (even though it was short) because we don't have a whole bunch of really close friends in the area yet(or they have kids which is difficult with hospital visiting) and my own kids couldn't even visit Kolbe and I in the hospital until a full 24 hours after he was born since two of them had thrown up the day before. Boo.
Chris headed home to relieve the amazing babysitter a few hours after Kolbe was born and he shared the news with the girls that they had a new little BROTHER! Surprise!
The reactions were....interesting.
Kayla ran out of the room crying. She was really set on having another little sis.
Elise cheered (boy was her guess).
Ava ran out of the room following suit with Kayla.
Sophie had no idea what was even going on.
Chris told me that Kayla locked herself in our office for about 15 minutes and refused to talk to him. Ava was fairly easy to win over. After Chris explained things, she was willing to be convinced that a brother would be tons of fun and she was shown pictures and thought immediately that "boys are cuter than girls", which obviously has no basis in reality, but at almost-4-years-old, she used that mentality to talk herself into the idea of having a little brother.
Chris told me later that Kayla took hours to warm up to the idea of her little brother. Poor girl had gotten herself SO completely set on a girl. And normally, Chris brings them a few hours after baby is born to meet their new littlest sib, but since there had been some little sicklings, he couldn't and that made it difficult too. If Kayla had been able to come and visit shortly after, she would have changed her tune immediately. She LOVES babies and would have been in love at first sight. I think her reaction was actually 1 part upset that she didn't get her guess and 1 part upset that she was told she had to wait so long to go visit at the hospital.
At any rate, she was completely won over and fully excited to meet her new little brother when they came to pick us up the following afternoon.
I am not sure there are sweeter smiles in the world than siblings meeting their newest little brother (or sister) for the first time. Just completely over the moon in love and smiles from ear to ear.

As you can see they were all completely in love. My heart melted watching each of them react to their new little bro.
As is tradition in our home, they brought Kolbe a new outfit to wear home.

Here's what they got him. And now they all (especially Kayla) call him Dad's mini man ALL. THE. TIME. It's sweet.
On his way home. He was just hungry. I promise. He has been a happy little camper since we arrived home on Saturday and is super easy going. He sleeps and eats and cuddles. (insert a bajillion heart-eyed emojis)
Welcome to the fam, Kolbe. We love you, sweet boy.
