New Mexico Family Weekend (September 2018)

On a bit of a whim, we found an air bnb in Albuquerque and took a little family trip.  Between the rescue dogs and the foreign exchange student our summer was certainly not our own at all, and we wanted to do something just as a FAMILY.

Our Air bnb was a super sweet place with a garden out back.  The kids loved playing and exploring and I liked relaxing with a book or my Bible.  Chris unfortunately still had to work quite a bit, but he got some fun and relaxation in too.

Chris and I went to the Albuquerque airport to have our Global Entry interviews to make our upcoming anniversary trip to Mexico that much easier...
Unfortunately there was a bomb scare in the airport that morning...right after I dropped Chris off for his appointment.
So the kids and I were stuck without keys to the Air bnb while Chris was stranded at the airport until they released everybody after the scare.
The kids and I found a few parks to explore.

More garden

This weird thing was on a bookshelf in our Air bnb
One evening we took a nice sunset hike

On the way home, we made a stop at the Great Sand Dunes National Park

It's so surreal to see a bunch of sand in the middle of no where in Colorado.

It was SO windy.  Not something one thinks about everyday, but when it's windy with sand it feels like little shards of glass are pricking you all over.  The kids didn't love that.

But they liked sliding down the dunes

Family selfie.
Sophie IS actually barely visible.  Her hair and forehead are in front of Chris between Ava and Kayla.  haha.

Do you see how random these dunes are?
Just in the middle of nowhere.  And all of a sudden a bunch of HUGE sand dunes.

We took a different route home to catch some fall colors in the mountains.

And that wraps up a fun little weekend getaway with our crew.  So glad we took that time this fall to invest in some FAMILY time.  I'm positive that's a decision we'll never regret.

Bernadette and Steve's Epic Visit 2018

In late August, my college roomie came to visit!  She married her college sweetheart who was our very dear and wonderful friend "Scuba Steve" before he was her boyfriend.  They have three fun kiddos: 2 girls and then a little boy.

To clarify, we are not alcoholics, but Bernadette and Steve were thoughtful guests and brought us Virginia wine and whisky as a thank you for having them, so of course we had to try it.  And we are always goofy, so that came out as soon as they walked in the door.
Below are the wonderful VA selections.

Before long, the kids dressed up fancy and had a dance party.

Bern and Steve could not resist the Disney dance party tunes.

One of the days they were here, Bernadette and I took the kids to Denver to go to the Nature and Science Museum.  We explored and had a blast.

Looking for stick insects camouflaged in that tree.

Learning about rocks and gems

Dinosaurs!

Woolly Mammoth skull and tusks.

We also explored the mind benders section which had cool little puzzles of all skill levels to solve.

And we learned about mummies in ancient Egypt.

Such a fun, fun time.  Thanks for braving the museum with me and all the kiddos, Bern!

Bernadette and I snuck out one afternoon to get pedicures, which she treated us both to.  Thank you for the laughs and the self-care, friend!

Silly pictures with Kolbe...

Another Theotokos household sister who lives in the area and is one of our college besties came over for dinner and drinks one evening.  So fun to catch up and laugh  A LOT!

Bern and Steve are photographers at anendlesspursuit.com and they snapped some amazing photos of our family during their stay.  The pictures below are just a few they took during normal activities.  Reading books (I get pretty into it with faces and expressions and voices)....

Thank you for capturing wonderful memories, you guys.  Stay tuned for other posts with more of their work....
Mostly thank you for coming all the way out to Colorado to visit and hang with us.  We were so glad to reconnect and get to chat in person and watch our kids play together.  We can't wait to see you guys again!
