Father's Day 2017

Father's Day fell on the same day as Corpus Christi this year, so after Mass there was a beautiful procession with the Eucharist and some beautiful prayers by the Mary garden.  What a perfect start to a wonderful day, with Jesus at the center.

When we got home I made a potato, sausage, egg casserole and chocolate chip muffins for brunch and Chris opened cards and the annual Father's Day "About Dad" surveys.

Beer and family.  They know him well.  :)

I wanted a picture of each of them with Dad.  Here's what I got.  A bunch of silly and sweet little goofballs with one big goofball to rule them all.  ;)

I just love reading these each year.

And I asked for a picture of all of them with Chris.
This was Try #1
(nearly perfect)

And this was Try #2
(completely perfect)
It isn't hard to get these kids to smile with Daddy.  They love him to pieces.

Chris watched golf and napped on the couch for awhile in the afternoon.  He had a bit of time to hang out and play around on his guitar as well.  Later in the afternoon, some friends joined us for a BBQ dinner.  The grill master grilled steaks for the adults (perfection!) and hotdogs for the little ones.  I made some sides and our friends brought over some yummy veggies as well.

The guys played cornhole with some of the kids, we had our yummy food, and later we had a fire pit and had cookies and s'mores.

The kids watched a show while the adults had a couple games of cornhole and we called it a day.  A wonderful, relaxing, fun day to celebrate the best guy in the whole world-- Chris.

And a happy Father's Day to both of our dads as well.  You guys are truly amazing and we are so grateful for your example and for your unfailing love.

My Sunday Best- Father's Day fun!

A blessed and joyous Father's Day to you all especially all the dads out there: my dad, my father-in-law, my amazing husband, godfathers, spiritual fathers, adoptive fathers, priests, and any other father figures out there.  You are incredible and your job is SO vital.

I saw this quote by Pope Francis earlier and got all heart-eyed emoji.

"To be a good father, the first requirement is to be present in the family.  To be close to his wife, to share in everything, joy and pain, burdens and hopes.  And to be close to the children as they grow; when they play and when they make efforts, when they are carefree and when they are distressed, when they dare and when they are afraid, when they make missteps, and when they return to the right path.  A father must always be present, but being present is not the same as being controlling.  Fathers who seek to control end up stifling their children; they do not let them grow."

Our fashionistas with their dad

I'll give you the quick run-down of #mysundaybest plus a quick recap of our fairly quiet Father's Day.

Last month, I won a giveaway with Pink Blush Maternity, so I bought a few new items for my maternity (and after) closet.  The only downside is that they are online so no trying things on.  The first couple things I ordered didn't fit right, but this maxi dress arrived and fit great, and all my girls were oohing and ahhing about "how pretty, Mommy!" and all that jazz and similar adjectives.

My Sunday Best:

Navy and white striped maxi dress: Pink Blush Maternity
Brown belt: Goodwill
Brown cardi: Ross
Fav flip flops: Sanuks
Necklace: a lovely medal of our Lady and baby Jesus with my wedding rings (because some days, especially these warm ones, they don't fit on my fingers so easy...)
Earrings: Premier Designs

Baby bump: 28 weeks + a few days

And now onto our Father's Day celebrations.  We started our day with Mass, of course.  After Mass was a brunch with sausage, bacon, eggs, and raspberry muffins.  Naps followed for small ones, and Daddy got some time to read his latest Jeff Shaara war novel.  Kayla and I worked on a yummy chocolate/raspbery cheesecake.  I used this recipe and this recipe and kinda combined them plus substituted gluten-free chocolate grahams so that I could enjoy the treat too.

It was delicious in case you were wondering.

The girls made Chris tons of pictures and cards and we made him a special painted canvas using an amazing St. John Paul II quote.

And we completed our annual Father's Day "survey" for each girl (who can talk).  It's so fun (and funny) to read their answers each year.

Dinner was a recipe that I've had in my allrecipes.com box for years and Chris always enjoys: Savory Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Plum Glaze with potatoes, cornbread, and some grapes.

Happy Father's Day!

The gift my daughters wanted to give....

By popular request here are some pictures I took of myself in those lovely pieces my daughters picked out for me for my birthday.  I'm sure you will be amused.  Please recall the quote of my eldest "Let's get these for Mommy!  She'd be hilarious!"

the Lion King leggings- Enough said.
Combination- More than enough said.

hahaha....

Here is the child who brought most of these ideas to the table.

perhaps if it had been an itsy bitsy teeny weeny YELLOW polka dot bikini...

Thankfully my husband convinced them to get me a cute maxi skirt instead.

WIWS- January 26

Time to share what I wore on Sunday...or rather Saturday because we attended Mass yesterday evening.

There's some sentimental value behind the maxi skirt because my 4 year old and two year old picked it out for me themselves.  They did get a little guidance from the hubby who informed me that Elise (the 2 year old) picked out a shirt for me first that said "I love my boyfriend" and moved on next to a polka dot bikini (yeah they sell swim suits in Target here in January because it's 'sunny with a high of 75' pretty much all the time).  But I digress; let's get back to my daughters shopping for my birthday gift...brace yourselves for what my 4 year old, Kayla, picked out for me - Lion King leggings (the hubby took a picture of them and showed them to me after I opened their present which was the skirt you see here).  Check out these leggings.

Kayla informed her daddy that they "should get Mom these.  She'd be hilarious".   I quite agree. My kid is awesome.

The look:

White tank top: Target
Mustard cardi: Target
Brown belt: Goodwill
Earrings: Claire's
Fiji necklaceJacie's Premier Designs
White sandals: I'm not sure...hand me downs or Ross
Fun maxi skirt: Target

How Do You Decide Who to Marry?

A friend posted this link to an article written by kids that is SO FUNNY!  Read the article here !

I thought I would ask Kayla (my 4 year old) the same questions and see what her responses would be.  Quite amusing.

the interviewee

How do you decide who to marry?

I already know who I’m marrying, but I don’t like to tell people till I get married.

What is the right age to get married?

11, because it's older than 3, 6, 7, 9, and 10.  It’s bigger than all the other numbers.

How can a stranger tell if two people are married?

I don’t know, I would tell them if they were married.

What do you think Mom and Dad have in common?

Sometimes you guys make up silly jokes.

What do most people do on a date?

Swimming, if there’s cold water for them.  If there’s mountains, they would climb a mountain.  When little kids go on dates, they could draw pictures.

What would you do on a first date that was going sour?

I would tell Mommy and Daddy and go on an airplane to a far land; far, far far away right next to where Mommy and Daddy went to the wedding in San Diego.

When is it OK to kiss someone?

When they love you.

Is it better to be single or married?

Married, because it’s funner married.

How would the world be different if people didn’t get married?

No one would see the pretty dresses the girls get married in and the pretty outfit that the boy has.

How would you make your marriage work?

Make him happy by doing nice things.
