7QT Friday: Nana and Granddaddy Visit

My parents were here for a visit before they headed out to spend some time with some of my other siblings and their spouses/families during Christmastime.  Here's a snapshot of their visit.

1. St. Lucy's Feast Day Celebrations

We celebrated per usual with one of the girls dressing as St. Lucy and going round the house singing a St. Lucy hymn with a tray of cinnamon rolls and candles.

We also celebrated the feast by making the most simple Swedish thumbprint cookies (Rosenmunnar cookies).  Four ingredients.  1 cup butter, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 cups flour, and jam.  Roll into balls, press your thumb in to make a thumbprint and fill with a dollop of jam.  Bake at 350 degrees for 15-17 min.

2. Game playing

There is always game playing when my parents come to town.  This time they brought a new game called Spot It (seen below) which the girls all really liked.  I also witnessed some Candyland, Quirkle, Wits and Wagers, and Sorry being played.  In the evenings, after the kids had gone to bed, my parents and I played Quirkle and Bananagrams as well (Chris was out of town for business).

3. House Cleaning

My mom pretty much cleaned my house for me.  All the deep cleaning things that I never seem to have any time for.  Thanks, Mom.  You are the best.

4. Selfie Time

I don't actually know when they did this, but my phone was secreted away and I discovered some fun selfies on it later....

5. Elise's Mini Ballet Recital

Elise finished up her ballet session at the Rec Center on Tuesday with a little informal "recital" where we all got to come watch the girls do several little dances to Disney and/or Christmas song selections.

6. Reading

When Nana and Granddaddy come, there are always lots of books read as well.  This time, since Elise is working on reading, Nana helped her out and let her read some Dick and Jane to her.  And then both Nana and Granddaddy read a plethora of Christmas stories to the girls over the course of the 4 days they were here.

7. Pictures Galore

And of course, we had picture time where the cameras came out and we coaxed out the smiles as well.  :)

Thanks for visiting, Mom and Dad!  Have a lovely Christmas and thanks for all the fun!
