Every so often, I have to compile a post to just share random stuff the kids are up to currently so that I don't forget all the silly, quirky little things they do and their current interests and activities.
Kayla is 7 (and a half!!--which she interjects everytime I say she is only 7)! She is still loving reading and loves chapter books about princesses, fairies, and any mystery she can get her hands on. She recently asked if she could try a Nancy Drew...boy does that take me back to my childhood. I loved those books.
She is improving at MarioKart on our WiiU and is hilarious to watch because she cannot sit down. She must stand up and hold her little steering wheel and she gets pretty intense and super focused. She especially loves racing Daddy, who always wins. She's usually somewhere around 8th, but has had some really great finishes too.
Elise is 5 (nearly 6!) and is learning to read slowly but surely. She is the type of child who does not exactly learn willingly, but eventually gets excited once you prod and coax and encourage and get really excited (or silly) about everything. And she is making definite improvement in her reading as she sounds out more and more words and is recognizing more and more of the sight words.
I wouldn't say she's particularly better at math than reading, but she does seem to enjoy it more. She's a very bright little thing, but not at all self-motivated yet.
She loves to play make-believe. She leads Ava in a lot of imaginative play like "house", "Mario brothers" (yes they "race" and pretend that they are the actual characters), and all sorts of pony and fairy play. And she's a sucker for laughs. Make her laugh (preferably at something really, really ridiculous and obscure) and she just keeps going.
Ava, at 4, is off and on interested in learning. She likes when I put together activities on the letters and numbers and she can COLOR. She loves coloring and is really quite good at it. This morning she even sat and listened and participated a bit in Elise's reading lesson. And I caught the two of them sounding out words together in a simple phonics book we picked up at the library. Sisters teaching sisters. Too cute.

She also has a flair for the dramatic. She is often found in a crumpled heap on the floor wailing about some situation that has ruined her life or crushed her soul. She doesn't put it in those terms, but her 4 year old sobbing/screaming version amounts to pretty much the same dramatization.
She adores Kolbe and loves to get up in his face and coo and giggle and tell him "you're cute!"
Sophie! Oh, Sophie. At 2, she is a total ham. She is into everything, climbing everywhere, and is practically fearless (except of people dressed up as characters-like when our friend's son dressed in a Darth Vadar mask for fun the other night and she freaked out). She is beginning to talk more. She is totally into babies (still!) and generally is found walking about the house with 1-3 at any given time. I desperately want her potty trained, but don't want to put forth the effort. Hoping for a miracle. ha.

(she's not afraid to dress up as a character herself though...)
She loves to sit and read just like her big sisters, and she is also becoming a little bossy at random times. The other week she wanted Ava to sit next to her and read her ballet book, and she kept insisting, "Sit! Sit!" and patting the seat next to her.
She is currently my most helpful child. At least the most willing to help. Sometimes she makes the task more work for me, but I'm happy she's offering. And often she is helpful, which is....well, helpful.

Kolbe is nearly 5 months (how!!??). He is full of laughs and smiles. We call his laugh (and several of his sisters had it too) the scackle. It's like a cackle, but he smiles so sweetly while he does it, so not really a cackle, thus- the scackle.
He has been rolling over for ages (his fav is back to tummy), but he is also recently spending a lot of time on his tummy once he has rolled over, looking at things and grabbing for them. He is very strong and holds his head and upper body off the ground to look around and he's also been doing a lot of 90 (or more) turns during his tummy play. If history repeats itself a 5th time in our family, this all means he is right on track to be crawling around 6 months and walking around 9-10. We shall see.

He is also a drooling mess and gnaws on everything. Not a sure sign that he's teething, but again, if history repeats itself as it did with his sisters, he is going to be popping a tooth in the next couple weeks. Maybe, maybe not. We'll just have to see.

Chris and I are pretty much the same....
And there you have it. Consider yourself updated.
This is Kayla reading our 2016 memories from our Memory Jar earlier this month.

She apparently wanted to wear make-up.
